WHAT GEAR DO I NEED?

2008-10-25

Want to know what equipment your hockey player needs to start practicing?

We have received a few questions regarding hockey gear.  IP are allowed to borrow gear the first year.  All others must provide their own.  Gear can be purchased new or used at Sports Outlet.  They can also help you determine proper fit.  Or gear can be purchased at an online retailer like Hockey Monkey or Hockey Giant.  Watch for their clearance sales.  Lastly, ask others who have older players if they have used gear that they are interested in getting rid of.  Here is a list of items needed:

1.  A padded pair of socks to be worn in your skates and under your shin guards
2.  Shin guards
3.  Some thing to hold up your hockey socks - This can be a cup and garter system or a lycra cup/short (like Shock Doctor) that has velcro at the bottom to attach your hockey socks to.
4.  Hockey socks
5.  Hockey pants
6.  A drifit or other long sleeve shirt
7.  Chest protector
8.  Elbow pads
9.  Neck guard
10.  Practice jersey
11.  Skates - Good fit is essentail to a positive experience
12.  Helmet
13.  Gloves
14.  Stick and hockey tape
15.  Bag to carry it all in

This also happens to be the order that most players put their gear on.  If you don't know how, go to the locker room and ask another parent that looks like they know what they are doing.  Good luck!
13.  Stick
